From The Rabbi's Desk

Sanctus, sanctus, sanctus…

Holy, holy, holy…

I have seen these words very often on the altars of many churches. Each time it registers in my heart as qadosh, qadosh, qadosh from our Q'dushah prayer. I found great personal meaning within these words. It seemed that God was speaking directly to me.

The prayer opens by directing us to sanctify God's name. How does one sanctify - make holy - a name? By living one's life in a reverent manner; by learning and teaching; by helping others; by being a mensch. You can see why this phrase was a sign post for my life's journey.

The Torah provides us with many signs and wonders: the burning bush, the parting of the sea, manna falling from heaven, the rainbow after the flood…Most of us do not experience signs which rate on the scale as miraculous but we have had moments of clarity, a word spoken by someone at just the right time or perhaps, a message in a dream.

We would like to hear your stories. If you are interested, please submit 2 - 3 paragraphs telling about one of these special times that you were touched by God.

In peace and blessing,

Rabbi Melody
